Maj. Gen Takirwa Roots For Saving Culture Amongst UPDF Officers
While officiating the opening of Wazalendo SACCO branch in Mbarara City on Friday, Maj. Gen. Takirwa challenged officers not to despise the money they get as salary saying saving doesn’t require to earn in billions but one can save whatever little they get.
Takirwa said mindset change towards savings is key not only to individuals but in developing the nation and instrumental in wealth creation in the country.
Highlighting the achievements, the Chief Executive Officer of Wazalendo SACCO, Col. Joseph Onata, said they have registered greater achievements hitting a total asset of shs 762 billion and that they have a loan portfolio which is bigger than many SACCOS in Uganda
According to Col. Onata- Wazalendo SACCO which started in 2005 with only 30 members now has over 90000 members which includes UPDF serving officers, civilian staff working with Wazalendo SACCO, civilian staff working with the Ministry Of Defense, members of their families and retired army officers are members of the SACCO.
