Police Warn Against Election Misconduct Ahead Of Lc1 Polls:Only Election-Related Activities Will Be Allowed On Polling Day – Police.Operation Ongoing To End Illegal Exploitation Of Forest Res
The Uganda Police Force has assured the public of security ahead of tomorrow's LC1 elections, warning against violence and any actions that could undermine the integrity of the electoral process. Speaking during the weekly police press briefing at Naguru today, police spokesperson SP Michael Kananura urged candidates and voters to observe electoral guidelines as campaigns officially come to an end.
Police have emphasized that no campaigning, processions, or any other election-related activities will be allowed on polling day. Traffic police spokesperson Michael Kananura said security agencies have not registered any major election-related incidents during the campaign period, apart from isolated cases of hooliganism that were promptly dealt with.
Kananura warned that police will not tolerate any acts of violence, voter intimidation, or interference with the electoral process, saying anyone who breaks the law will face action from security personnel deployed across the country. He urged participants to use the legal channels provided to resolve any electoral disputes instead of resorting to violence.
Police also used the briefing to provide an update on ongoing operations against the illegal charcoal trade in Northern Uganda. Conducted jointly with the Environmental Protection Police Unit, the UPDF, and the National Forestry Authority, the operation is targeting the illegal exploitation of forest resources and activities contributing to environmental degradation.
Kananura says the operation will continue as authorities pursue everyone involved in the illegal charcoal trade. He urged the public to support security agencies by providing information that can help identify and arrest those engaging in environmental crimes.
Meanwhile, police say operations against phone theft are also ongoing. According to Kananura, about 1,000 suspects have been arrested. Of these, 954 have been taken to court while 137 cases remain pending. He noted that not everyone arrested is not guilty unless proven guilty and investigations are still ongoing
