Leaders in Lwengo District have cautioned residents against misusing government-issued mosquito nets ahead of the upcoming nationwide distribution exercise, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability. Lwengo District has received 201,350 government-funded mosquito nets for household distribution. Local officials, led by Resident District Commissioner Emmy Kateera Turyagyenda, are mobilizing leaders at all local levels to supervise the process. Officials have issued a strict warning against corruption, sales, or diversion, emphasizing that the distribution must be transparent, free of charge, and strictly match the quantity allocated to each parish.

Abasi Kizito, the Lwengo District LC5 Chairperson, thanked the Ministry of Health, the National Medical Stores, and other partners for supporting the campaign. He reassured residents that the mosquito nets would soon reach every parish before being distributed to households free of charge, urging members of the public to report anyone demanding payment in exchange for a government mosquito net.

Local leaders also welcomed the exercise, saying malaria continues to affect many families, particularly pregnant women and young children. They encouraged residents to use the mosquito nets consistently after receiving them, noting that proper use of the nets will help reduce malaria cases and improve community health. The leaders also echoed calls for transparency, insisting that no resident should be asked for money during the distribution process.

District leaders say they will closely monitor the distribution exercise to ensure every household receives its allocated mosquito net and that the campaign achieves its intended goal of reducing malaria infections across Lwengo District.
