Embrace New Technology To Address Unemployment Problem – Business Experts Advises Youths

Economic and Business Experts have advised that youths use the available technology to get business opportunities to address the problem of unemployment which has long been a concern in the Country.

It should be remembered that during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, many youths were affected which included the termination of jobs for the majority.

Following the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic which affected many Ugandans, especially the youths, many Ugandans have started using social media and other technologies to create many business opportunities.

It should be remembered that in August 2023, the government of Uganda launched the digital transformation roadmap which is a comprehensive strategy expected to revolutionize Uganda’s technological landscape.

The plan is also to harness the power of technology to bridge digital gaps, empower youths and uplift marginalized communities.

Based on these grounds, Economic and Business experts say that training youths to use technology in starting businesses will address the issue of unemployment and expedite the process of getting youth out of poverty.

William Kamukama, a stakeholder and business expert adds that youths should also not focus on looking for jobs in the offices but use technology and the latest cyber innovations  like social media to create jobs

Kamukama called upon the government to ensure support to the youths who come up with ideas to create business opportunities using technology.

Kwacra Nantongo also a Business expert says that in advancing business in Uganda technology is the only way to go instead of waiting for office Jobs.

Nantongo adds that it's through technology, that many ideas can be generated especially those that are business-related.

She however condemned the youths who still misuse social media platforms by posting unbefitting content instead of using it for progressive issues.

It's estimated that over 2.05 million Ugandans aged 18 years and above use social media equivalent to 8.9 percent of the total population.
