CMA Celebrates 30 Years of Growing Uganda's Capital Markets: Authority Intensifies Financial Literacy to Boost Public Investment.CMA Says Capital Markets Are Key to Long-Term Economic Growth.
The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) is marking 30 years of regulating Uganda's capital markets, with officials highlighting the sector's contribution to investment, business growth and economic development. The Authority is also urging more Ugandans to embrace regulated investment opportunities as it seeks to expand public participation in the capital markets.
For three decades, the Capital Markets Authority has regulated Uganda's capital markets, overseen investment activities and promoted confidence among investors.
As the Authority celebrates its 30th anniversary, officials say the sector has evolved into an important platform for mobilising savings and enabling businesses to raise long-term capital for expansion.
They note that capital markets go beyond buying and selling shares, playing a critical role in supporting economic growth, creating jobs and financing national development.
The Authority says despite the progress registered over the past 30 years, many Ugandans have yet to participate in capital market investments due to limited awareness and misconceptions about how the sector operates.
To address this, CMA is expanding financial literacy programmes aimed at helping the public understand investment opportunities and make informed financial decisions.
As it commemorates three decades of operation, the Capital Markets Authority says increasing public participation, strengthening investor confidence and expanding access to regulated investment opportunities will remain central to the continued growth of Uganda's capital markets and the country's economy.
