Deputy Speaker Tayebwa, Archbishop Mugalu Defend Passed Anti Homosexuality Bill

Deputy Speaker Tayebwa, Archbishop Mugalu Defend Passed Anti Homosexuality Bill

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel-Kaziimba Mugalu has asked Members of Parliament to be intimidated amidst pressure from some Western countries over the Anti-homosexuality Act.

The Archbishop, who was the chief guest during the Easter Carols service at the parliamentary buildings, said that promoters of homosexuality will attempt to bribe the legislators to compromise on fighting for the morality of Uganda.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, said that Parliament was pleased to contribute to fighting evil practices in society.

This Easter Carols at the parliament buildings was organized by the Anglican Chaplaincy at Parliament. Several dignitaries graced the event, including the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda His Grace Kazimba Mugalu, ministers, Members of Parliament, and other staff of Parliament.

In his message, the Archbishop revealed that he had received several calls from Europe, asking him to speak against the Anti-homosexuality Bill that Parliament passed a few weeks ago. He vowed to strongly defy such calls.

According to His Grace Dr. Kaziimba, the calls have come with offers of huge sums of money. He, however, appealed to all Ugandans of goodwill to turn down such evil offers for the sake of the country’s culture and morals.

Archbishop Dr. Kaziimba says Uganda is not like other countries, especially in the West which has since normalized the abnormal. He asked the legislators to stand firm after passing the Anti-homosexuality bill and reject all manner of intimidation and pressure from the promoters of homosexuality.

His call was buttressed by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa who says those claiming that Uganda passed a bad bill are ignorant of what’s happening in Uganda.

Rt. Hon. Tayebwa explained that the current laws covering unnatural sexual acts had several gaps that needed to be closed to criminalize the vice, hence the need for the new law.
According to Tayebwa, the vice is promoted by a small minority with the intention of fulfilling personal gains
The anti-homosexuality bill now awaits President Yoweri Museveni’s assent for it to become law. The proposed law prescribes sentences such as death and life imprisonment for those found in breach of several sections.
