UNRA Boss Condemns Shoddy Work Along Hima-Fort Portal Road

The Executive Director of the Uganda National Roads Authority Allen Kagina has ordered for amends on poor workmanship after inspecting work along the 55-kilometer Hima-Fort Portal Road.

Kagina directed the contractor, China Wu Yi Ltd, to fix potholes, open access roads to people's businesses and homes and put signposts, among other works, at their cost outside of the contract cost.

The poor works on the road has been blamed for road accidents in the area, according Bunyangabu district leaders who petitioned UNRA.

A few months ago, local leaders of Bunyangabu district wrote to the Executive Director of the Uganda National Roads Authority, Allen Kagina complaining about shoddy work on the 55-kilometer Hima-Fort Portal Road which they blamed for the rampant accidents along the road under construction.

Kagina came on the ground directed the contractor, China Wu Yi Ltd to fix the issues raised in regard to the ongoing road works.

Residents of Rwimi town council in Bunyangabu district also raised a concern, asking for the removal of pavers from the pedestrian walkway on the road sides because big trucks have failed to turn when on high speed, exposing them to accidents

Kagina told COU Family TV that the Rwimi roundabout will be upgraded to ease movement on the road.

The State Minister for Gender and Culture, the Hon. Peace Mutuuzo, who is also the Woman Member of Parliament for Bunyangabu District was concerned that the road project which should have brought to the residents was instead causing pain to poor workmanship. The same concern was raised by the Bunyangabu district chairman.

Kagina also noted it that as one way of minimizing road accidents within the area, UNRA will ensure that the resting place that the district leadership set up is maintained.
