Uganda Inaugurates First Africa’s Forensic Sciences University
The Third Deputy Prime Minister Lukia Nakadama has officially inaugurated the National Forensic Sciences University (India-Africa Campus) the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre in Gaddafi Barracks, Jinja. It is the first facility of its kind in Africa.
Rt. Hon. Nakadama represented Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is currently on a wealth creation tour in the West Nile region.
The inauguration was witnessed by India's External Affairs Minister Dr Subrahmanyan Jaishankar who represented India’s Prime Minister Nerandra Modi.
The Third Deputy Prime Minister Lukia Nakadama, who is also the Mayuge District Woman MP, commended the Indian Government for supporting Uganda to establish the National Forensic Sciences University - Uganda Campus in Jinja, the first of its kind in Africa.

The Rt. Hon. Nakadama assured the proprietors of the new university of government support. She pledged that the government has provided the land with a lease of nearly 100 years
"This is the first NFSU branch that India has built outside their country. Uganda Government has already secured 130 acres of land with a 99-year-old lease for the construction of the permanent NFSU - Uganda campus”
India’s External Affairs Minister Hon Dr Subrahmanyan Jaishankar notes that the first foreign campus of the National Forensic Sciences University of India will mark a significant milestone in furthering bilateral defence cooperation between India and Uganda.
He observed that courses in forensic science have been in high demand the world over in the last few years.
Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu, the UPDF Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, underscored the need to build modern and efficient economies based on science and technology to spur social economic transformation and also tackle security threats.
He urged the University to facilitate technological transfer and enhance defence capabilities to address emerging threats.
“the most serious threat to man is the science, not conventional wars and crimes, and thus necessitating the adoption of science and technology to safeguard our human life and security”
The National Forensic Sciences University - Uganda will provide specialized training in forensics (use scientific methods and techniques to investigate crime), cyber security, digital forensics, and behavioural and allied sciences.
