Soroti District Health Centers Grapple With Drug Shortages

Soroti Regional Referral Hospital and a number of health centers in the district are facing medical supply shortages that might plunge the district into a crisis.

The medics at the Soroti regional referral hospital confirmed to our reporter in Soroti that the facility lacks a lot of medical supplies such as drugs, gloves, syringes.

Soroti Regional Referral Hospital is faced with a medical supplies shortage that the management says might become a crisis if not handled urgently.

According to Dr. Ben Watmon, the hospital director, the lack of medical supplies at the referral hospital is affecting patients and the medical team. Dr. Watmon says the facility requires emergency medical supplies.

The National Medical Stores delivery schedule indicates that there should be medical supplies between the month of December and January, 2023.

The district leadership however decried the medical supplies shortage that is affecting people. Former Woman MP Soroti and Serere, Alice Alaso says she visited the hospital and found out that there were no drugs. She appealed to National Medical Stores and the Ministry of Health for rescue.

Soroti Regional Referral Hospital covers a population from the districts of Soroti, Katakwi, Amuria, Kapelebyomg, Serere, Ngora, Kumi, Bukedea, Kaberamaido and the larger Bukedi, Lango and Karamoja regions.
