Ruwenzori Diocese Bishop Calls For The Prosecution Of All Those Involved In Karamoja Iron Sheets Scandal

Ruwenzori Diocese Bishop Calls For The Prosecution Of All Those Involved In Karamoja Iron Sheets Scandal

The Ruwenzori diocese bishop Rt Rev Reuben Kisembo has challenged the DPP to produce all government officials who were involved in Karamoja to courts

The bishop says this will instill confidence in the public that government is serious about the war against corruption.

This comes days after the minister for Karamoja Marry Gorret Kitutu was paraded before the court and sent to Luzira.

Thursday this week, the minister for Karamoja affairs and Manafwa district woman mp, Mary Gorret Kitutu was paraded before the anti-corruption court charged  and remanded on six counts of corruption, loss of government property and conspiracy defraud among other cases

The minister is accused of mismanaging iron sheets meant for Karamoja which ended up in government officials’ farms and compounds.

The case is before magistrate Aciro Joan who sent the minister on remand as a court couldn’t grant her bail. There are concerns the minister could be just a sacrificial lamb in the scandal

Calls have since been made to have all government officials implicated in the matter to be charged. Government’s move to parade kitutu before the court is now described as selective.
The government has been challenged to parade other culprits less its move to fight corruption is taken as a joke.

Many governments have consented to task the iron sheets. Some of these officials have returned them to OPM while others have not.
Police have since opened up inquiries into the matter. Time will tell whether all the culprits will be paraded before the court.
