Property lost in Hoima city fire

A fire has gutted a business house near Stabex petrol station along Hoima-Kaiso Tonya road in Lusaka Lower, Hoima City leaving property worth millions of shillings destroyed.

The fire broke out from a suspected lit charcoal stove in one of the boutiques on Tuesday morning.

Residents say the fire started from a boutique of Nalumaga Balyesiima, the Hoima city deputy mayor and extended to rooms where jerry cans of diesel were being kept.

Although the police fire brigade quickly arrived at the scene, residents have appealed to the government to give them one more fire fighting vehicle because they find difficulties in putting down such fires.

Mathias Balyesiima and some of the other victims say that they have lost property worth million shillings in the fire.

The Police Commander Hoima Central Police Station, Alex Wabwire has noted that the police fire brigade has saved lots of property and investigations to establish the cause of the fire have commenced.

By the time of filing this report on Tuesday afternoon, the aggrieved businessmen and women were at the scene trying to sort out their burnt property.
