Prime Minister Urges Intern Doctors To Be Professional And Love Uganda

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has asked health workers to adhere to their ethical code of conduct and avoid conduct that may endanger the public they serve.

The Prime Minister advised while addressing a group of intern doctors undergoing a two-week ideological orientation training at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi District.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja noted that all health workers, whether they are employed in the public or private sectors must adhere to and respect their professional code of conduct since these are critical in service delivery.

According to the Rt. Hon. Nabbanja, it is unethical for health workers to always resort to protesting through staging strikes whenever they have grievances they want to be sorted and addressed by the government.

Intern medical workers, including doctors and nurses as well as pre-doctors, are currently on strike, protesting the government’s delay to deploy them to public health facilities and also pay their allowances. They staged a protest two weeks ago, which the police dispersed.

The Rt. Hon. Nabbanja challenged the intern doctors at the training in Kyankwanzi to put to practice the leadership skills they had received at the training at Kyankwanzi because it will help them in their career development.

Dr Musa Lumumba, the president of the Federation of Medical Interns, who was also the course Coordinator at NALI, says that the training had come at the right time to prepare them for their career roles which were just starting.

Brig. Gen. Charles Kisembo, the Director of the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi, asked the Prime Minister to have the Bukwiri-Kyankwanzi road tarmacked. Brig. Kisembo underscored the importance of leadership training.

President Yoweri Museveni is expected to address the medical interns while closing the training that will last two weeks.
