PFF Dismisses “State Narrative” On Among Raids: Lukwago Questions Speakership Succession Debate Amid Corruption Controversy. Opposition Calls for Transparency, Institutional Accountability in

The People’s Front for Freedom has dismissed what they termed as the state narrative surrounding the ongoing security operations and corruption allegations linked to former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, describing the unfolding developments as a reflection of deeper governance and accountability challenges within the country’s political system.

The National Executive Chairperson of the People’s Front for Freedom, Erias Lukwago, today addressed journalists at the party headquarters in Katonga, Kampala, where he weighed in on the growing controversy surrounding the Speaker of Parliament and the ongoing investigations into alleged illicit enrichment and money laundering.

Lukwago argued that the recent security operations targeting properties reportedly linked to Anita Among should not be viewed as a genuine anti-corruption campaign, but rather as internal political maneuvering within the ruling establishment.

He further claimed that the Speaker’s rise and conduct in office were enabled by the broader political system under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, insisting that the current developments must be understood within that wider political context.

Lukwago also alleged that Parliament had gradually been transformed into what he described as a political marketplace, where loyalty and political survival are often negotiated at the expense of public trust and accountability.

The PFF leader expressed concern over what he termed as a growing credibility crisis within Parliament, arguing that recent events have continued to erode public confidence in one of the country’s key democratic institutions.

He warned that the country should focus more on addressing systemic governance failures rather than concentrating solely on individual political figures.

Lukwago also commented on reports linking several senior government figures, including Defense Minister Jacob Oboth Oboth, to discussions surrounding the speakership race in the incoming 12th Parliament.

He questioned whether a mere change in leadership without broader institutional reforms would produce meaningful transformation within Parliament, citing unresolved accountability concerns and previous legislative decisions as reasons for caution.

The People’s Front for Freedom says it will continue mobilizing citizens and opposition leaders to demand transparency, institutional accountability, and reforms aimed at restoring public trust in Parliament and other state institutions.

The party maintains that Uganda’s political future will largely depend on rebuilding credibility, strengthening oversight institutions, and ensuring that leadership remains accountable to the citizens it serves.
