Five Months Baby In Kabale Needs Urgent Heart Surgery
A 5 months old baby in Kabale, Abimelech Abaho and his parents are fighting for his life after medics recommended for heart surgery.
It followed advice by both the medical teams at Rugarama hospital and Mulago Heart Institute that referred the baby to India for a surgery before he turns 6 months on 18th February, 2023.
According to Annet Tushabomwe, the baby’s mother, Abimelech Abaho was born with the right weight but eventually developed conditions that led to his admission at Rugarama Hospital. He was later discharged a week after but his condition worsened.
Ms. Tushabomwe says that the baby’s condition worsened during the New Year’s Day while his parents were in Kisoro d for the seasonal break. They rushed him to a clinic there and it was revealed that he had a cardiac problem.
Eventually, they were referred to Mulago Heart Institute where it was confirmed that the baby had a problem and needed urgent surgery.
Tushabomwe said that they cannot afford the cost of saving the baby’s life and appealed to the public for support Alice Ayebare, a chronic diseases speacialist at Rugarama hospital confirms the baby’s dire need for a surgery.
According to medical information, congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common congenital anomaly in children. Over half of the deaths due to CHD occur in the neonatal period.
