Fire Destroys Property Worth Millions In Kasese

Property worth millions of shillings has been destroyed in a fire outbreak that affected businesses at the Industrial Centre in Kilembe Quarters in Kasese Municipality.

A cassava flour mill and the adjoining stores were reduced to rubble. Some of the items that were burnt in the area include tonnes of cassava and maize flour, and the milling machine, among others.

The fire reportedly started at about 8:30 pm on Sunday from an electric switch that got short-circuit and cause sparks.

The business community selling cassava and maize flour in Kilembe Quarters in Kasese Industrial Centre is counting losses after a fire gutted the mill and the stores.

One of the traders, Namara Hawa said that the workshop had millions of shillings but nothing was rescued. She appealed to the government for relief because the traders are servicing loans.

According to one of the eye eyewitnesses Amanya Eddie, residents rushed to the scene but could not save anything because the fire was huge.

The Local Council three Chairperson of Central Division in Kasese Municipality, Safari Martine said they have not yet established the total loss, adding that the police are conducting investigations.

The District Police Commander asked residents to use professional electricians to wire their houses and business premises to avoid short circuits and other incidents.
