Electoral Commission Launches Update Of Voters’ Register

The Electoral Commission has officially launched the update exercise of the Voter's register as we approach the 2026 general elections. The public has therefore been called upon to engage in the exercise ensuring they are registered for the upcoming elections if they want to vote. The exercise commenced today and is set to run up to the 10th February 2025.

Justice Simon Byabakama, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission has officially launched the voters registration exercise that is to be carried out countrywide as the upcoming general elections draw near. The exercise was carried out today in Kamwokya.

According to the chairperson, electoral commission, there are a total of 37,000 polling stations and they are expecting to receive an increase in voter registration of approximately four million people compared to the previous number in the year 2021.

A period of 21 days was given out to the public beginning today, the 20th January 2025 to the 10th February 2025 to ensure that voter's registration is catered for. however, the time period did not leave very many pleased thus the issue being addressed.

Justice Byabakama stated that the commission is working hand in hand with the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to guarantee that the process moves smoothly.


He called upon the different political parties to mobilise their supporters urging them to engage in the voter registration exercise.
