Electoral Commission Is Preparing For A General Update Of The National Voters Register

The independent electoral commission has announced the preparation t carry out a general update of the national voters register in preperaton for the up coming 2025/2026 general elections. The head of communications at the commission, Julius mucunguzi while speaking exclusively to cou family tv called upon members of the public to updste the information in the register to ensure smooth operations come election time. The training of trainers and new electoral commission staff commenced to day in different regions of the country.
The electoral commission is preparing for the General update of the national voters register. The head of pr says it should be credible. He says there is a training of the trainers and new staff appointed to carry out the update. The exercise is commencing o 20th of January and will be concluded on 10th February.
He also says that much as there are people who seem to be campaigning alreadsy,the ec released a roadmap that should act as a guiding factor for the electoral process and no single candidate has been nominated for any position. He calls upon them to abide by the law
In regards to the budget needed by the electoral commission to carry out elections, mucunguzi says funds have already been provided by government, even though the commission would require some more inorder to comfortably cary out the process.
On voter bribery and commercialization, mucunguzi outlines the absurdity of candidates who sell their belongings to bribe voters and suggests the introductions of laws and reforms to regulate this scourge
Mcunguzi also highlights the challenge of low voter turn up and shares plans to sensitize especially the youth on the importance of turning up to vote. He urges the public to refrain from any form of violence.
Having lost a member of parliament last week, Mucunguzi comments on the expected by election in Kawempe north.
