DP Women Leader's Address On Women's Day

DP Women Leader's Address On Women's Day

As Uganda and the rest of the world prepare to celebrate International Women’s Day tomorrow, the head of the Democratic Party Women’s League, Aisha Waliggo, has asked women to excel in all areas when given the opportunity.

She expressed disappointment that female ministers have been adversely mentioned in the latest scandals in the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and the Karamoja iron sheets scandal.

Waliggo, who addressed journalists at the DP Kampala office on City House, also encouraged women to get engaged in technology spaces as per the theme of this year’s Women’s Day.

The head of the Democratic Party (DP) Women’s League, Aisha Waliggo, urged women in leadership to diligently do their work but they should also be supported instead of being frustrated because of their gender.

On the Karamoja iron sheets scandal, the head of the DP Women’s League said she was disappointed that female ministers have been at the forefront of the saga. She asked all those implicated to step aside or resign since they failed to carry out their responsibilities in the positions they were given.

Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Dr. Mary Goretti Kitutu, has apologized for the diversion of iron sheets meant for the Karamoja region, saying that she may not have received proper guidance on the matter.

On the allegations of homosexuality, especially in schools, the DP Women’s leader urged parents to be responsible for the upbringing of their children and not leave the responsibility to teachers or the government.

Waliggo urged all women to prepare to take up leadership spaces in all fields but mostly in science and technology in line with the theme of the 2023 International Women’s Day.
