Construction Of Steel Manufacturing Plant In Rubanda Excites Local Residents

A new steel manufacturing plant being constructed in Rubanda District is expected to bring significant economic opportunities to the region.

The news of the new plant is causing excitement among a number of local residents who hope to get employment in the plant and transform their lives. The steel plant is a private sector investment estimated to be worth 1.5 billion dollars.

The new steel manufacturing plant sits on a wide expanse of land covering 420 acres in Rugaramiro Village, Muko Sub-County in Rubanda district.

Engineer Adams Kyeyune, the Director of Steam Investments Company, the firm overseeing the construction of the plant, shared details about the upcoming venture.

The Rubanda West MP, Moses Kamuntu Mwongyera, in whose area the plant is being constructed, visited the site. The Hon. Kamuntu is also the Director of Kamuntu Iron Ore Investment Limited which will supply the bulk of raw materials to the steel plant.

According to Engineer Kyeyune, the plant is expected to produce 5,000 tonnes of steel daily. The construction work is slated to begin in July.

The plant's operations will require a substantial energy supply, necessitating 350 megawatts of electricity daily basis to power the machinery. Engineer Kyeyune is confident they will meet the energy requirements.

Kyeyune says the plant will create approximately 40,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.

MP Kamuntu emphasized the importance of community cooperation, urging locals to embrace the project to maximize its advantages.

Steven Ampeire Kasyaba, the Rubanda District LC5 Chairman, highlighted the significance of the plant's impact on local revenue and employment opportunities and noted that the project aligns with the district's development goals in fostering growth and prosperity.

Steam Investments Company has also pledged to improve the region's infrastructure and services by constructing schools, hospitals, police buildings, and a modern Rukiiko hall for Rubanda District.
