Bundibugyo Accident Survivors Say The Ill-Fated Vehicle Lost Brakes Before Overturning.
Survivors of the weekend Bundibugyo accident that claimed the lives of 5 people while scores were left injured have revealed that the vehicle in which they were travelling lost its brakes before overturning several times.
The tragic incident happened at Bugombwa Hills in Busaro Sub County, Bundibugyo District when an Isuzu canter registration number UBL 317R failed to negotiate a sharp corner and overturned, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and leaving 15 others with injuries on Saturday.
Mutagwaba Abdallah who lost his hand in the accident revealed that the driver of the vehicle was moving at a high speed before the brakes broke down.
He said they tried to talk to him to reduce the speed in vain.
The ill-fated Isuzu Canter vehicle was ferrying mourners from the burial of their relative in Nyahuka town council. They were on their way back to the Ntoroko sub-county in the Bundibugyo district.
Asiimwe Edirisa had two of his wives and his elder brother in the same vehicle, one of his wives had had her arm amputated while his other wife according to the hospital got multiple injuries in her chest and head.
His elder brother has also had his arm amputated at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital.
Edirisa now wants the government to keep a keen eye on most of the drivers who drive recklessly saying their actions are causing the deaths of many people.
Dr. Reuben Amagara Kyomukama, a Fort Portal Regional hospital surgeon, said the facility received 6 people out of which only one is still in critical condition.
