Kabarole RDC Denies Selective Application Of The Law Against Wetland Encroachers In The District

The Kabarole  Resident District Commissioner Festus Bandeeba has denied a selective application of the law during the case profiling against the wetland encroachers in the district.

This week, the district embarked on case profiling against those that encroached on the wetlands.

The exercise according to the RDC involves case profiling, and case building for all the individuals that encroached on the wetlands in the district so that they can easily be prosecuted.

However, The Kabarole  Resident District Commissioner Festus Bandeeba has come out and refuted claims by some of the individuals that claimed the exercise has been largely selective on some people as others were left out.

The district commissioner says the exercise is now aimed at making physical actions that are decisive.

Recently, the president ordered wetland encroachers to get out of the wetlands before the government officially forcefully evicts them.

Museveni said encroachers of wetlands are the reason for the unreliable rainfalls that affect irrigation schemes in the country.

Bandeba says all individuals that encroached on the wetlands are being made to record statements at police so that files can be opened based on their levels of encroachment.

The exercise is being done in conjunction with the Rwenzori West Regional Environmental Police.

Rwitanga Godfrey Abwoli, the Hakibale sub-county chairperson reveals that as the sub-county they have been compiling names of all those that have encroached on the wetlands and presenting them to the office of the Resident District Commissioner but nothing has ever been done.
