Archbishop Kaziimba Unveils New Bishops
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Steven Kaziimba Mugalu this afternoon announced the election of three new bishops for different dioceses in the Church of Uganda.
The House of Bishops, which is the Electoral College, sat at the Lweza Training and Conference Centre in Wakiso District. Let’s now hear the Archbishop giving the good news.
NEW MUKONO BISHOP
The Rev. Canon Enos Kitto Kagodo has been elected the 5th Bishop of Mukono Diocese. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 26th February 2023 at St. Philip's and Andrew's Cathedral, Mukono.
Rev. Enos was born on 13th December 1968 in Nakisunga Sub-country in Mukono District. He became Born Again on 14th October 1994. Rev. Enos testifies, "God saved me from being a drunkard and from the life full of destructive behaviours which I had started as a juvenile." He earned a Master of Divinity degree and a Bachelor in Health Administration from Uganda Christian University, after receiving diplomas and certificates in the same fields.
Rev. Enos is currently the Provost of St. Philip's and Andrew's Cathedral in Mukono. Prior to this position, he has served as a parish priest, Archdeacon, and Diocesan Health Coordinator. He was ordained a deacon on 9th June 2002 in Mukono Diocese and then made a priest on 12th December 2004. He has served on school management committees as well as various Diocesan Boards in the course of his ministry. Rev. Enos is married to Catherine Namuddu and God has blessed them with seven biological children and many spiritual children.
NEW NORTH KARAMOJA BISHOP
Rev. Canon Simon Akol Aisu has been elected the 2nd Bishop of North Karamoja Diocese. Canon Aisu was born on 6th August 1964 in Nabilatuk District, and was born again on 20th December 1981 at a youth conference in Nabilatuk; Rev. Canon Joseph Okreo preached on the theme, "Are you alive or dead?" On looking at my empty life which was full of sin, I surrendered my life to Christ, and I crossed from death to life. I became very committed to reading Scripture, listening and understanding the Word of the Lord, hymns, and Christian Choruses. My life was not the same again."
Canon Aisu earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Uganda Christian University after receiving a diploma and certificates in the same fields. He has also participated in a number of other capacity building training programmes.
Canon Aisu is currently the Sub-Dean of Christ Church Cathedral in Kotido. He has served in a number of positions in both Karamoja and North Karamoja Dioceses, including Archdeacon, Theological College Principal, Diocesan Secretary, and parish priest. Canon Aisu is married to Anna Aisu and the Lord has blessed them with seven children. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 12th February 2023 at Christ Church Cathedral, Kotido.
REV. ASIIMWE – NEW BISHOP NORTH KIGEZI
The Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe was born on 24th April 1965 in Mparo, Rukiga District. He became Born Again on 8th January 1988. On his road to salvation, he is quoted to have said that after a night of heavy alcohol drinking, he heard the Lord say to him the next morning, “'Onesimus, do you not know that your body is the Temple of God?”
In response to the voice, he threw away the cigarette dangling between his fingers and called on Jesus for salvation.
He made a public confession of his new found faith, that very evening during the family prayer time at home and a couple of days later in the local church in Kihanga.
Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe holds a Masters of Divinity degree from Uganda Christian University, a Bachelor of Education degree from Makerere University, and a Diploma in Education from the National Teachers College in Kabale.
He has attended numerous capacity building trainings locally, as well as internationally.
The Rev. Asiimwe is currently the Chaplain of St. Francis Chapel, Makerere University. Prior to this position, he served as the Provincial Youth and Students Coordinator where he helped develop the very influential PAYSCO (Provincial Annual Youth and Students Convention) programme.
He also served as the Chaplain to then Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi, and Coordinator of the Provincial Healing, Deliverance, and Intercessory Prayer Ministry. The Rev. Asiimwe is married to Florence and the Lord has blessed them with three children. He is has been elected the 6th Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, replacing Bishop Patrick Tugume who has been the caretaker Bishop of the Diocese after the death of Rt. Rev. Bishop Benon Magezi, who succumbed to COVID-19 on 15th June 2021 after two weeks of hospitalization at Mulago Hospital.
The Rev. Asiimwe will be consecrated and enthroned as the 6th Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese on 12th March 2023 at Emmanuel Cathedral, Kinyansano in Rukungiri District.
