African Youths Take Part In Peace Building And Conflict Resolution Training In Makerere
Makerere University Rotary Peace Centre has continued to embark on peace-building and conflict-resolution processes, through training the youths to be global change-makers. This follows the continued arising of conflicts in different parts of the African continent and at a global level with little to no solutions for challenges related to this field
While speaking to Journalists at Makerere University, Hellen Nambalirwa Director of Rotary Peace Centre Makerere University said that currently Makerere University they are hosting the 5th cohort fellow’s conference where they will be sharing social initiatives impact projects, which they have been doing in communities as part of the study in peacebuilding in different communities.
Since 2002, Rotary Peace Centers around the world started training peace fellows, and currently over 1600 have been trained and are leading peace and development initiatives in over 140 countries.
Uganda being the major host peace Centre in Africa which was achieved under competitive exercise, includes rotary in Uganda being very vibrant and appreciated globally through its activities of life changing and is currently hosted by Makerere University.
The curriculum at each peace center has been carefully crafted to address specific aspects of the peace-building process and train the next generation of global change-makers.
Currently, Makerere University Peace Centre is hosting a 5th cohort fellows conference where they will be sharing social initiatives and impact projects, that they have been doing in communities as part of the study in peacebuilding in different communities.
Hellen Nambalirwa Director of Rotary Peace Centre Makerere University says that they have discovered that many conflicts continue to arise in different parts of the region, continent, and global level, hence the need to bring the youths about peacebuilding in light of avoiding conflicts at the Future for proper development
She adds that they receive and work with different professions because peacebuilding is a multi-disciplinary field.
Mike Kennedy Sebalu immediate past District Governor under Makerere University Rotary Peace Centre says that cohort 7 made up of 21 peace scholars from 15 countries across the globe, will be having quite some months studying peacebuilding to experience certain aspects of peace as it pertains to Uganda as host country such as how conflicts are mitigated, managed and resolved, and the refugee question as well.
Uganda has a good history in managing and resolving conflicts especially because of its export, import, and regular dealings with refugees and the role it has played in the Great Lakes region in terms of peace and stability.
Emmanuel Isabino a participant from South Sudan says that such peace-building initiatives are very crucial in empowering youths to be agents of change in their societies.
Isabino says that South Sudan is one of the countries with insecurities, and there is a need to get ideas for addressing the cause factors of conflicts in their country.
