41 People To Receive National Medals At Uganda’s 61 Anniversary

PRIMA
The minister for presidency, Hon Babirye Miily Babalanda, has revealed that at least 41 individuals have been selected to receive national medals for their noticeable contributions towards the country’s development.

This is expected to happen at the 61st Uganda Independence Day celebrations on Monday 9th October 2023, in Kitgum District.

Usually, the Uganda Independence Medals are awarded by the president, H. E Yoweri Museveni to individuals in recognition of their outstanding services and loyalty to the country since independence.

These medals have been categorized by the Presidential Awards committee, as provided for in the National Honours and Awards Act, 2001.

Addressing journalists at the Uganda media centre, the Minister for the Presidency, Babirye Miily Babalanda disclosed that at least 41 people will be receiving the medals during this year’s 61st year of Uganda’s Independence Day celebrations.

She explained that the 2023, event’s theme, “Sustaining a united and Progressive Nation: Taking Charge of Our Future as a Free Nation” is deep-rooted in the ideas of the independence founding fathers, for a country seen based on the rule of law, democracy, social economic transformation and governance.

Based on a few lawless situations in the country, such as corruption and delayed service delivery, Uganda has been claimed to have not completely acquired independence as it battles with these.

Uganda attained its independence on 9th October 1962 after 78 years of British rule. Since then, the country has had 9 presidents with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the longest serving, 38 years since 1986.

This year’s celebrations on 9th October,2023 will be graced by President Museveni in Kitgum District.
